As a Trauma Informed School, we recognise the profound impact that traumatic experiences can have on a child’s well-being and academic success. Our trauma-informed approach is rooted in understanding and addressing the unique needs of each child, fostering a culture of respectful relationships and empathic responses. We are committed to supporting the health and well-being of all students during their time at Nether Green Junior School.

Our SENCO and assistant head teacher, Ms Musgrove, has a Trauma Informed Diploma and all Senior Leaders, Teaching and Support Staff have received trauma informed training. In order to reduce the impact of traumatic experiences on children, we use a whole school approach which includes:

–        Protective relationships with our young people from the moment they enter the school gates.

–        Respect for all children and genuine interest in their lives

–        Carefully scripted language to support children in states of distress

–        Explicit teaching of emotional regulation and mental states

–        Support to repair and reflect following any challenging incidents in school

–        Bespoke 1:1 or small group support where needed
